Ben Grace was commissioned to capture the gallery imagery for Resist: be modern (again), an exhibition curated by Alice Maude-Roxby and Stefanie Seibold. Bringing together the work of contemporary artists alongside the practices of pioneering women artists, designers and writers of the 1920s and 30s, the exhibition explored the continuing relevance of early avant-garde ideas and their influence on contemporary art, design and culture.
Featuring work by artists including Becky Beasley, Madeleine Bernstorff, Tessa Boffin, Ricarda Denzer, Andrea Geyer, Moira Hille, Alice Maude-Roxby, Nick Mauss, Ursula Mayer, Falke Pisano, Ingrid Pollard, Tanoa Sasraku-Ansah, Katie Schwab, Stefanie Seibold, Megan Francis Sullivan, S. Louisa Wei, Riet Wijnen and Gillian Wylde, the exhibition brought together practices that had historically been censored, overlooked or marginalised because of gender, sexuality or ethnicity.
Ben’s gallery photography documented the exhibition and its individual works within the gallery setting, creating a visual record of the installation while capturing the relationships between the artworks, architecture and exhibition design.
